Imperial Assault @ Dwarf

Friday night ended up being my first shot at Imperial Assault, rather than another game of Planetfall.
The mini's as you can see below are nearly all one piece minatures, the only one that required assembly was the Scout Walker.
The models are remarkably good for single piece models, a few mould lines on the shoulders of the Storm Troopers, but all in all I was very impressed.

The board setup for this game is probably quite fun if you are building one of your own, if however you are building one from the book it does take a bit of co-ordination and planning and definitely took us around 10 minutes to find all the pieces, get them all on the right side, and all connected correctly.

Below our fearless group of Hero's have just landed, and are ready to venture forth.

A bit of a wider view to show you how the game is progressing. I was in charge of Saarkhan, a fiercesome Wookie.

A Wookie that after two turns had used all their Focus up, and had 9 points of damage out of 14 on them... .recklessness may not be the way forward here!
Or Maybe not... it wasn't all down to the Wookie, but her certainly did most of the heavy lifting.

Our Sniper up close and personal with three Strom Troopers and their Officer... this isn't going to end well!
When we ran out of time we were just about to run into the Blaster Tri-pod, so things were going to get sticky real quick, as the Tripod itself took out my Wookie in one round of shooting
Overall a very fun game that kept us all entertained and playing, now Dave (the owner) just needs to find someone to volunteer to paint Storm Trooper white....

Planetfall Battle Report (Picture Heavy)

Good Morning all,

So this weekend I managed a whooping 4 games of Planetfall, demo'd it once more, and played Imperial Assault!

Pictures from all of this coming to the blog this week.

For now time to let you see how the first game went!

On Dragkons Paint Table (picture Heavy)

Hi all, with both Dragkon and myself playing plenty of Planetfall at the moment, he sent me some snaps of his painting table at the moment.

Planetfall: Sky Drop Tactics

Last time I spoke to you about Sky Drops and how it works, now its time to talk about how to use them, and how to deal with them.

More after the hop.

The War Log

While perusing the Spartan forums this week I actually went and read the War log for Firestorm & Planetfall.

Planetfall: Sky Drop

After my previous rules, and with the free release of the rulebook online (I think I may have mentioned this once or twice before) I figured it was time to talk about a few other other items in the book that you will encounter.

One of the big things, that affects your deployment, your enemies, and how the game progresses are Sky Drops.

Planetfall Picking your Force - Allies

So when building your battlegroup, last time we discussed how to build it using just your own faction.

Now its time to look at how (and a little bit of the why) you can include factions that are not your own.

Planetfall Battle Report (Picture Heavy)

So on Friday I completed my first real Demo of Planetfall at my local games club, pictures and the details after the jump!

On the painting table (picture heavy)

My plan is to try and get a post up semi-frequently showing you guys what I have on my painting table.

Planetfall Picking your Force

On the back of my review's time to talk about one of the exciting parts of Planetfall (and all games in my opinion).

Saturday Night Planetfall

A quick post,

A couple of snaps from a game in progress vs my brother of Planetfall, interested in a review, click here.)

He was playing with his Terran's, unfortunately still haven't had the weather for him to get them undercoated yet.

The game ended with a solid victory to his Terrans, helped by some outstanding shooting (15 shots, which resulted in 20 successes taking out one of my transports with his first shot of the game.)
I learnt that Cyber Warfare really needs to be the first thing you do at the beginning of each turn (putting an activated marker on a unit that has already activated sorta sucks...)

Just after the beginning of the game, my two big tanks basically got stuck behind the buildings in the centre... which didnt help me at all!

His transports escorting (rather than transporting) his troops across the battlefield, as they are a larger class and block line of sight!

The Advancing wave of Terrains, two large tanks, scouts and his medium, along with escorting shield tanks... eek!

The aftermath of that 20 success generating shot, only four bases of infantry got out that transport!

The sole bright point of my game was my five recon scouts out flanking his scouts and medium tanks... they didnt last long but flank and rear shots are fun!

Planetfall Review (Part 1)

With the New Year past, its time to get back to some blogging.

Unlike many of the rules reviews I have done, this time I can be confident that it is impossible for me to give you too much information (and potentially giving people a way to play the game without the rules) as Spartan Games are in the process of releasing all of their rule books online free of charge.
