With my expansion into the 30k world still going strong, I am now making sure that any model I purchase (or intend to) has a place in an army list already written.
With that in mind, I have come up with a modular approach to my list writing to see if this helps me out.
More after the jump (and as ever all thoughts & comments are welcome!)
So to begin with I figured out a 1500 point army I was happy with, in the future I might look to trim this down to 1000 points (especially if I ever look like getting a Zone Mortalis game in!)
Basic Module
HQ:
Legion Centurion, Power Axe (Warlord)
Legion Consul, Master of the Signal
Troops:
Tactical Squad, 11 Marines, Nunico Vox, 1 Sergeant with Combi Weapon
Tactical Squad, 11 Marines, Nunico Vox, 1 Sergeant with Combi Weapon
Tactical Squad, 11 Marines, 1 Sergeant with Combi Weapon
Tactical Support Squad, 4 Marines, 1 Sergeant all with Volkite Calivers
Elites:
Cataphrattci Terminators,
- Terminators Sergeant, Power Fist, Combi Bolter, Grenade Harness
- Terminator A, Chain Fist, Combi Bolter
- Terminator B, Lightning Claw, Combi Bolter
- Terminator C, Lightning Claw, Combi Bolter
- Terminator D, Power Sword, Plasma Blaster
Heavy Support
Legion Heavy Support Squad, 4 Marines, 1 Sergeant all with Heavy Bolter
Legion Heavy Support Squad, 5 Marines, 1 Sergeant all with Rocket Launchers
Sicaran Battle Tank, Heavy Bolter Sponsors
This rocks in at 1500 points, 60 models and 5 scoring units.
The Warlord is to be frank, there very much as a filler, and is likely to change slightly, when I have time to think about it a little, but he wont cost more than 65 points.
So where is this modular concept I hear you cry (or sigh?), well the next bits are 500 point chunks that can be added to the list to bring it comfortably upto 2,000 points.
Primarch Module: 500 points
Troops
Tactical Support Squad + 3 Marines with Volkite Caliver
Heavy Support
Legion Heavy Support Squad +1 Marine with Rocket Launcher
Lord of War
Roboute Guilliman (Warlord), Rite of War Logos Lectora
This module adds in all the power & might of the Primarch of the XIII. He allows me to add either 1 or 2 scoring units to my allowance (as he can make the Heavy Support Squads, or the Sicaran Scoring.
The extra firepower from the 3 guys in the Volkie & 1 in the Rocket Launchers should give me a bit of a tweak against some armies as well.
Spartan Module: 500 points
Elites
Swap Cataphrattci Terminators out for Tartaros Terminators
Spartan Assault Tank (Dedicated Transport for Terminators), Flareshield, Armoured Ceramite, Auxilary Drive
Troops
Tactical Support Squad + 3 Marines with Volkite Caliver
Heavy Support
Legion Heavy Support Squad +1 Marine with Rocket Launcher
Legion Heavy Support Squad +1 Marine with Heavy Bolter
This list brings the Spartan into play its current config is a tiny bit cheaper than Guilliman, but it does add 4 Lascannon shots (twin linked), and a Heavy Bolter to the mix, which should help against opposing armour.
