Showcase: Relthozans - Bugs, more bugs!!!! (Picture Heavy)

I managed to grab some pictures of one of our club members planetfall armies.

They collect Relthozans, and somehow got our Chairman for Life Brian to paint them up for him.

Now I have my own Core helix at home I am painting my way through, but these guys look amazing and should prove to be some additional motivation to help me get my models sorted!

Lots more pictures after the jump!

Betrayal at Calth - 1500 points

Earlier this week I posted some basic options of what you can make with just one copy of the Betrayal at Clath.

Today I will look at a specific 1500 point list without any special characters...

Betrayal at Calth 30k

So in the Betrayal at Calth set you get the following Models.

30 Mk IV Marines
5 Cataphactic Terminators
1 Contemptor Dreadnought
2 Praetors / Consuls

So for £95 from Games Workshop itself or potentially less from online retailers, how many points does this buy you?

Well first up I figured it would be worth doing this from a Crusade Era army list (eg 30k).

This box provides you the models to build the following units from a Crusade Astartes force:

HQ
Legion Praetor
Legion Centurion
Legion Command Squad

Elite
Legion Tactical Veteran Squad
Legion Terminator Squad
Contemptor Dreadnought Talon

Troops
Legion Tactical Squad
Legion Reconnaissance Squad

Fast Attack
Legion Seeker Squad

You obviously can't build all of these units, but you have the models to make a selection of them.

If you were to double up on your Boxed sets you would bolster your choices to include:

Legion Tactical Support Squad
Legion Heavy Support Squad

Both of these units require a minimum of 4 either Special or Heavy Weapons, so if you have spares kicking about (given that you can get 10 of these for £12 from Forgeworld) you could increase your options to include them from just one box, or potentially via trades.

This gives a decent number of choices from just your single starter box (something you can never complain about!)

So we have discussed what units you can represent, how about we now look at how many points you can make up from this starter box?

From one box I can make the following list:

HQ
Legion Praetor, Cataphracitti Terminator Armour, Chain Fist, Combi Bolter - 150
Legion Centurion - Consul (Legion Champion), Artificer Armour, Power Maul, Plasma Pistol - 125

Elite
Legion Veteran Tactical Squad (10) - Rocket Launcher with Suspensor Web x 2, Flakk Rockets - 260
Legion Terminator Squad (5) - Cataphracitti Armour, Power Fist x 2, Chain Fist, Heavy Flamer - 205
Contemptor Dreadnought Talon (1) - Twin Linked Lascannon - 200

Troops:

Legion Tactical Squad (10) - 150
Legion Tactical Squad (10) - 150

This list comes in at 1240 points, which is a fair old start, and assumes all you have are the models provided in the box, and nothing to complete conversions with.

If you were to double up on your starter boxes, then you can easily rock past 2000 points.

HQ

Legion Praetor, Cataphracitti Terminator Armour, Chain Fist, Combi Bolter - 150
Legion Centurion - Consul (Legion Champion), Artificer Armour, Power Maul, Plasma Pistol - 125

Elite
Legion Veteran Tactical Squad (10) - Rocket Launcher with Suspensor Web, Plasma Gun, Flakk Rockets - 250
Legion Terminator Squad (10) - Cataphracitti Armour, Power Fist x 4, Chain Fist x 2, Heavy Flamer x 2, Lightning Claws Set x 2, Grenade Harness - 425
Contemptor Dreadnought Talon (2) - Twin Linked Lascannon, Assault Cannon - 390

Troops:
Legion Tactical Squad (20) - 300
Legion Tactical Squad (20) - 300

Legion Support Squad (6) - Plasma Gun x 6 - 205

Heavy
Legion Heavy Support Squad (5) - Rocket Launcher x 5, Flakk Rockets - 210

Total 2355

Now neither of these lists are going to be win at all costs, but they do give you an idea of how many points you can make up from just 1 or 2 starter boxes.

As I build up my Horus Hersey force I will experiment with some of the generic lists, and with some Chapter specifics (between myself and Dragkon we are likely to Own Characters for - World Eaters, Salamanders, Sons of Horus, Iron Hands & Ultramarines.)

Look out for further lists later this week!

Horus Heresy Week II - Take 2!

For the second week running I am planning to do something for the Horus Heresy.

However  this time I will actually hold to it (given that I have most of the posts written now).

For the next 7 days I am going to aim to do one post per day about the Horus Hersey, the 30k setting and the Betrayal at Calth game.

Having received the game yesterday at Winter War (a local Charity event tournament) its time to get my wiggle on, get some models painted, army lists built and get back into the Sci-fi setting for Warhammer!

So what are my plans?

Here are my thoughts around the 'blog plan' for the week.

Monday - Betrayal at Calth - a 30k Army List basic ideas
Tuesday - Betrayal at Calth at 30k Army List (1500 points)
Wednesday - Betrayal at Calth at 40k Army List (1500 points)
Thursday - Betrayal at Calth Work In Progress Assembly / Painting
Friday - Horus Hersey Showcase Minatures by Dragkon
Saturday - Betrayal at Calth - The Rules

Hopefully you don't mind the wait to get this going guys, and I look forward to your thoughts and comments!

Aquan Infantry Upgrade Pack

So I debating long and hard about whether I wanted to buy these, not because I didn't want them, but more because I already had 24 bases of Aquan infantry to paint.

By getting this I have just added another 21 bases...

A Small Delay.

Work this week has pretty much swamped me, meaning that despite having a clear plan of action for posts, it has all fallen a little bit by the wayside.

But Fear not!

The Horus Heresy week will return next week as I am off work, and will actually have some time (around Battlefront) to get the model assembly started and the blog posts fully written.

In the mean time I can only apologise for anyone that managed to read the posts that went up without any content!

On the plus side my work life has me doing short hop train commutes at the moment which has gotten me back into reading the Horus Hersey series, and it seemed only fitting to start reading Know No Fear.

Getting the full story of Calth seemed only fitting and I think it has inspired me as to what chapter my Horus Heresy minatures will be getting painted in.

I am pretty sure they will stay as Word Bearers or Ultramarines from the boxed set, but I am currently trying to be sure which of the two I will go for.

For now it looks like the Ultramarines will win out, but before I put paint to model I would like to be sure!

Unboxing Betrayal at Calth (Picture Heavy)

Its late!

Very late... apologies to those of you who expected this on Monday.

Anyways... the unboxing of the Betrayal of Calth.

Lots more pictures to follow!

Horus Heresy Week

For the next 7 days I am going to aim to do one post per day about the Horus Heresy, the 30k setting and the Betrayal at Calth game.

Having received the game yesterday at Winter War (a local Charity event tournament) its time to get my wiggle on, get some models painted, army lists built and get back into the Sci-fi setting for Warhammer!

So what are my plans?

Here are my thoughts around the 'blog plan' for the week.

Monday - Unboxing Betrayal at Calth
Tuesday - Betrayal at Calth - a 30k Army List
Wednesday - Betrayal at Calth at 40k Army List
Thursday - Betrayal at Calth Work In Progress Assembly / Painting
Friday - Horus Heresy Showcase Minatures by Dragkon
Saturday - Betrayal at Calth - The Rules
Sunday - A look back

So the Rules from the Boxed game are pretty late in the week, but I will hold my hands up and admit I am not getting the box for the game itself.

I hope that by this point in the week I will have been able to get a game in, and be able to give it a decent review.

The first three days are relatively straight foward, and Thursday relies on me actually having started modelling the models themselves.

Friday again shouldnt be too much of a challenge as I just need time at Dragkons, to get some snaps of his mini's as they are at the moment... he currently has two Primarchs & a Character Diorama duel set as well.

Hopefully this next week will provide you some interesting reading, and maybe (just maybe) some inspiration for your hobby.

Planetfall - Aquan Recon Helix - Painted

So, these guys took a while to get pictures up of because of the amount of infantry in the box... 12 bases always seems to take forever to paint!

However I now have a few pictures to share of my completed Recon Helix.. this leaves me with just my Aquan Infantry set & the remaining lights of my Leviathan Helix to paint!

More pictures after the jump!

Horus Hersey Unit Reviews

So Warhammer 40,000 is a game I played for an extended period of time, getting serious about it in 2001, and staying playing it consistently for 13 years.

However as with many things my interest Waned with the Codex creep and speed at which everything change, 7th Edition, which I still havent had a game of, didnt even interest me enough to pick up the rules.

The one constant throughout my involvement with 40k, has been the background.

My brother and I jointly picked up the first two Horus Hersey books from Forgeworld, and having an army of my own representing one of these chapters has always been on my hobby bucket list.

With the upcoming release of Plastic Heresy models the temptation has increased tenfold, and while I know I can't just walk out and pick up the new box when its release (apparently food for a six month old takes priority!) its on my radar, and has got me revisiting all my thoughts about the Era.

So, I cant get the models at the moment, but like all good hobbyists, that shouldnt stop me planning what I want to do!

So whats first?

Well picking a legion is pretty high on my list of things to do. Starting at the beginning the first army I ever owned was a Chaos one from back in 2nd Edition. Abaddon the Despoiler was one of my first Characters, with Fabius Bile closely following.

The Sons of Horus are a huge temptation, the protagonists of the Hersey, with Horus in the army it is one I am not sure that I can resist.

Beyond them I am looking at the Ultramarines, I have always loved their structure, with many books within the Series itself lending me to think that as the creator of the Chapters they have a place in my heart.

So in my searching on the internet to figure out what I can about the legions I stumbled across a fellow blogger that I have been following for a while, although I hadnt been to his blog for a while.

JabberJabber has done a lot of work on reviewing all of the units, rules, Primarchs released thus far in the Horus Heresy books.

If you are interested in finding out a bit more about the 30k era and the units available, I would strongly recommend heading over...

In the mean time I am going to continue to plan out which of the 18 Legions I fancy building up!

Deadzone - Asterian Booster box

In addtion to all the other models you have seen me posting about I finally managed to get my Asterian booster packs assembled.

More piccys after the jump!

Aquan Leviathan (El-Shami) painted

So not a complete helix, but as I finally managed to complete my Aquan Leviathan, I think it deserved a post all on its own.

Lots of pictures after the jump!

Aquan Aerial Interceptor Helix - Painted!

So I posted a little while ago that about these guys, and in record time for me I can now post some pictures of them fully painted, and with their own bases!

Lots of pictures, after the jump!

Deadzone - Forgefather Booster Box

So a much more recent purchase for my Deadzone collection. although it has still sat there for far too long.
